Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is a specialized test that your Respirologist will order.  A requisition will be submitted to the Bronchoscopy Department for booking and you will be contacted with appointment dates.

What to Expect

You will be provided with a detailed set of instructions in preparation for the test.

A Respiratory Therapist and a Nurse will guide you into the Bronchoscopy suite, explain the procedure and equipment and prepare you for the procedure.  An intravenous will be inserted into a vein in your arm for sedation medication delivery.  Your nose and mouth will be numbed with topical and inhaled medications.  You will be given a light sedative in order to keep you comfortable during the test. A Nurse will also monitor your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels.

Bronchoscopy procedures vary in length from 15 - 60 minutes, depending on the investigation/procedure being performed.
