Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is a specialized test that your Respirologist will order.  A requisition will be submitted to the Bronchoscopy Department for booking and you will be contacted with appointment dates.

What to Expect

You will be provided with a detailed set of instructions in preparation for the test.

A Respiratory Therapist and a Nurse will guide you into the Bronchoscopy suite, explain the procedure and equipment and prepare you for the procedure.  An intravenous will be inserted for sedation medication delivery.  Your nose and mouth will be numbed with topical and inhaled medications.  You will be given a light sedative in order to keep you comfortable during the test. You will also be monitored for heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels.

Bronchoscopy procedures vary in length from 15 - 60 minutes, depending on the investigation/procedure being performed.
